Lake Chelan
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:44:37 PM »
I am going to head over to Lake Chelan in a few weeks and wanted to try fishing it.  Sounds like Kokanee are one of the fish people are catching currently.  I was wondering if anyone might have some tech tips on how to catch them.  I have fished for them on Lake Merwin, Baker Lake and Lake Shannon, but never used down riggers for them like they do on Chelan.  I used to use small fenders followed up a wedding ring with white corn.  Not sure what the ticket might be at Chelan.  Any help would be appreciated.
Cut em!

Go to Salmon University and go to fishing reports and scroll down to "Lake Chelan" they are saying the Macs are hot in deep water. So you'll need a downrigger with lots of cable. 300' min.

In about 5 weeks they will be spawning in the Stehekin River, Company Creek and 1st Creek. A lot of orange fish then along with the fish bears eating them :dunno:

Try the Macks Cha Cha squidder with some fire corn behind a size 0 or 00 dodger. Let us know how you do!

Find the Darrell & Dads charter and do what he does.  Guy catches a ton of fish and is really nice.  He made a presentation that I bought a hard copy of at a Sportsman's Show a few years back and he gives all the details of the lake trout fishery, but I don't remember if he talked about Koke's or not.

Looks like he posts pretty informative reports:
